Emma Reynolds, the current Pension Minister met Angela Madden, WASPI chair, for the first time in 10 year on Thursday 05 September 2024.
Angela Madden expressed hope and said it “is the start of something” and there is now hope for “fair and fast compensation”.
Angela Madden told BBC News on Friday morning that there was a private meeting on Thursday to discuss the compensation and the recommendations made by the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO).
The PHSO suggested £1,000 and £2,950 compensation for some WASPI women which is not fair. She said, “Well, they are necessary but not sufficient”.
Angela said, “We certainly felt listened to, Emma Reynolds is new in this job and she very much was listening, gathering information and understanding our position. She’s certainly got the official information, she’s read the reports (PHSO) and knows we appeared at the Work and Pensions Committee meeting earlier in May”.
Angela said that the compensation amount was not discussed in the meeting but rather the discussion was on fair compensation should be provided as fast as possible, its already been more than 10 years.
