When will WASPI Get a Decision

Women in the UK are wondering when they will get their pension and when will WASPI get a decision.

There is no confirmed date but as per the updates, the WASPI is likely to get a decision by the second half of 2024.

There was an update from the Department of Works and Pensions (DWP) regarding the compensation for the Women Against State Pension Inequality (WASPI) and is expected to provide £1000 to  £2950 to the women who are eligible for the compensation.

The women born in the 1950s are affected by the new state pension age. It was a gradual increase and you can check your state pension age in the WASPI compensation calculator.

What’s the Update According to DWP

According to the Department of Works and Pensions (DWP), they have a clear intention to address the matter and provide compensation to eligible women in the UK.

But as per the recent statement of the Secretary of States for Work and Pensions Mel Stride MP said that he will return to the House of Commons “when there is something to say”.

This statement alone created a lot of chaos and confusion among the people about whether they would receive the compensation or not.

What’s the Update According to PHSO

According to a report of the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO), it stated that the parliament should establish a compensation scheme and “act swiftly” so that the decision can be given to the WASPI women as soon as possible.

The report of PHSO suggests that the compensation of level four should be provided to the WASPI women which is £1000 to £2950.

What’s the Latest Update on When will WASPI Get a Decision

As per the latest MPs are demanding a “rapid” and fast action to provide compensation. Blaming at DWP, PHSO said that the DWP has failed to properly notify the women about the state pension age change and asked the House of Commons to provide compensation fast.

The compensation is expected in July by the summer recess

General Election Hampering WASPI Compensation

There is a point worth noting that the General Election was announced by Rishi Sunak and will happen in July.

According to the Chair of WASPI, Angela Madden, this will have a negative impact and will vanish all the struggle and progress the WASPI women made in the last two months.

As the PHSO has already come up with a report about the recommended WASPI women’s compensation payout, which is between £1000 and £2950, the reports and efforts of the women will go wasted due to the upcoming election.

There was a compensation bill presented by the MP Alan Brown which was due for its second reading in June, will have no significance as there won’t be any reading as the parliament is already dissolved due to the elections.

Angela Madden, WASPI Chair said, “It’s hugely disappointing. We have worked so hard in the two months since the report was published.”

Addressing the election she added, “There is virtually no Government for the next six weeks because it will be dissolved. “All the committees will be dissolved, the bill that Alan Brown was going to put forward will no longer be a bill because it didn’t get voted on in this Parliament.”
